Custom Paint

How does one stand it? I’ve been without my beloved Wide Glide for a month already, waiting for it to be painted. If it had been up to me, I would have waited until winter. (Not that I don’t ride in the winter ~ I’m blessed to live in a climate that allows yearlong riding. But somehow driving that SUV to the office every day isn’t so bad when it’s 30 degrees in the morning!) But it wasn’t my choice. I got hit by a teenage driver on May 1, and am still trying to get myself and my scoot back to where we were.

The first two weeks after the wreck, my old man worked on getting the bike roadworthy again, while I healed. Then, when I was physically able to again, I returned to work and on the third week, I was able to ride again. But on Memorial Day weekend, we took off the sheet metal and sent it to be painted. Two weeks went by and, due to circumstances out of his control, the painter hadn’t been able to touch the tins. So I picked up everything and took them to another artist. Now they’ve been there three weeks and very little has been done, although I’m told they’re going to have a draft of the artwork ready for me by mid-week, and the bike should be painted & ready in about ten more days.

In the six years since I bought my first bike, this is the longest I’ve ever gone without riding. Even after having abdominal surgery, I was back on my iron pony in just eleven days. I don’t know how much longer I’ll last…
